Mayor Nutter Presents His Favorite Movie

The World of Apu
(1959) (Shown on DVD): One of the more embarrassing omissions on my "films seen" list, Satyajit Ray's Indian drama concludes his estimable Apu trilogy, begun with 1955's Pather Panchali and continued with 1956's Aparajito. Now in young adulthood, the title character finds himself in an arranged marriage that turns out to be better than imagined, but not before an even more unexpected tragedy. (Not reviewed.) Sat., Feb. 2, and Mon., Feb. 4, 7pm; and Sun., Feb. 3, 3:30pm and 7pm.
The Rosa Parks Story
(2002) (Shown on DVD): Daughters of the Dust director Julie Dash helmed this TV biopic on the civil rights heroine, with Angela Bassett in the lead. (Not reviewed.) Sat., Feb. 2, 7:30pm.
