Love Songs, South Park website, Film School Contest
On Demand: IFC
What: Pansexual French musical romance.
Why: It's a musical, a sex farce, a tragedy--with straight, gay and threesome romance, plus pretty Paris and interchangeable Europop songs. In just 95 minutes, it starts as a musical comedy about a threesome of Paris hotties, morphs into a mopey melodrama when things take a tragic turn, then winds up as a gay romance between a bereaved narcissist (soulful French hunk-of-the-moment Louis Garrel) and the young student who stalks him. It's like a French Across the Universe or an emo update of Jules and Jim and other French New Wave classics of sex, love and yearning.
What: Comprehensive beta site for everything South Park.
Why: It's the old story of rebels gone mainstream. "We got really sick of having to download our own show illegally all the time," creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker said about the streaming sites they now want to put out of business. In their place they offer "legal" downloads of every episode ever, plus images and episode guides, chat, news, forums, ringtones and clips you can embed. Will the boys keep their edge now that they're living in a shiny new McMansion?
