Film events around town.
Breakfast at Tiffany’s
Blake Edwards’ classic adaptation of Truman Capote’s novel is one of those films you fall in love with as a kid and are disappointed by as an adult. Once you’re a sentient being, it’s impossible not to be horrified by Mickey Rooney’s broad, offensive portrayal of a buck-toothed “Oriental,” even if you tell yourself it was minted in a different time. Still, Audrey Hepburn is lovely as Holly Golightly, strumming her guitar on the fire escape. Sun., May 24, 2pm. $4-$8. Colonial Theatre, 227 Bridge St., Phoenixville. 610.917.1228. thecolonialtheatre.com
2009 Diamond Film Festival
Think it takes millions of dollars and the backing of Hollywood studios to make a film? Think again. Temple’s Film School seniors and grad students offer examples of their work on the final evening of this festival. Thurs., May 21, 7pm. Ambler Theater, 108 E. Butler Ave., Ambler. 215.345.7855. amblertheater.org.
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The first and inimitable best of the series—almost as innocent in its intentions as Breakfast at Tiffany’s. This initial installment was an earnest evocation of comic books and serials, and it worked perfectly with a kickass cast featuring Harrison Ford and Karen Allen. Sat., May 23, midnight. Ritz Bourse, 400 Ranstead St. 215.625.0300. landmarktheatres.com
