Many survivors of sexual abuse struggle for years to recover from the assault while combating stigma and silence. Few are aware of the tremendous strength and resolve it takes to heal from the long-lasting emotional scars left by such abuse. PW's first book, The Survivors Project: Telling the Truth About Life After Sexual Abuse, explores this complex issue in more than 50 personal essays written by survivors, their loved ones and advocates. The essays are raw, emotional, starkly honest and, most importantly, full of hope. PW senior editor Nina Hoffmann and her husband, project co-editor Joel Hoffmann—who know the healing process first-hand—will discuss the book and read excerpts at a Free Library event on Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. The event will also feature speakers from Women Organized Against Rape and the Philadelphia Childrens Alliance.

7:30pm. Free. The Central Branch of the Free Library, 1901 Vine St. 215.686.5322. freelibrary.org
