The New York Daily News reports that the Villanova Wildcats, now ranked No. 3, could soon be sitting on top of the college basketball world. "Nova, which does not play this weekend, should move up one spot after top-ranked Kentucky's 68-62 loss to South Carolina Tuesday night in Columbia. And there is a possibility the 19-1 'Cats could reach the summit for the first time if Kansas State defeats second-ranked Kansas in a prime-time game Saturday in little Manhattan. Are the 'Cats the best team in the country? It's hard to tell. Right now, Kansas, Syracuse and possibly Kentucky look like the teams with the best chance to win six games in March. But the Wildcats - who have surpassed 80 points for their last five Big East games, play 11 and have the type of quality guard play needed to succeed in March - deserve to be in the conservation. "Truthfully, I've never thought about being No. 1," Villanova coach Jay Wright said. "But I can't see anything negative about it. It's good for the school, good for recruiting, fans, alumni. All that positive stuff is always good for everybody, except in our team. If we start playing for that and forget about getting better defensively, then it becomes a distraction.""
