The Daily News reports a Pew poll gives Mayor Nutter at 53 percent job approval rating, despite the budget and labor struggles of the last year. "Obviously, I'm pleased with the direction, but more pleased that the public is demonstrating an understanding of what kind of challenges we're facing," Nutter said. Nutter continues to receive lower ratings from black residents than white residents - just 43 percent of black Philadelphians say he's doing a good job, compared with 65 percent of white residents. While just 21 percent of white residents disapprove of Nutter's performance, 43 percent of black residents disapprove. Among Hispanic residents, Nutter earned job approval from 55 percent and disapproval from 24 percent.Nutter said that his lower ratings in the black community may be in part because those residents have been hard hit by the economic decline. "I think a part of that is just a reflection on how devastating the recession has been on the African-American community in particular and communities of color," Nutter said."
