The bloodlines of this new joint are somewhat ritzier than a South Street fave of a few PW staffers, Ron's Ribs -- ritzier enough, in fact, that we're not sure you'll be able to compare the two enterprises.
Excerpts from the press release from Profile Public Relations:
In October, restaurateurs Steven Cook and Michael Solomonov will debut Percy Street Barbecue (900 South Street), helmed by one of Philadelphia’s brightest culinary rising stars: Chef/Partner Erin O’Shea, most recently the executive chef at Cook’s acclaimed Marigold Kitchen. Cook plans to turn over Marigold to Chef Robert Halpern, who will become the new owner, marking an exciting new step in his and Solomonov’s growth as two of the city’s most prolific and acclaimed restaurateurs.
Chef O’Shea, whose menu at Marigold Kitchen has been roundly praised by local and national restaurant critics, will take the reins at Percy Street, as executive chef and partner, overseeing the kitchen and bringing her Southern roots and culinary heritage to bear in what is sure to become Philadelphia’s best barbecue restaurant. Pairing her expertise with Chef Solomonov’s deep knowledge of cooking with hardwood and charcoal, Percy Street will serve a richly flavored assortment of meats, long-smoked over hardwood in authentic Texas-made barbecue pits, along with comforting sides, craft beers and tasty cocktails, in a 100-seat space that includes outdoor dining on South Street. Maura Carney who worked as general manager with the team at Marigold will also move over to Percy Street in the same capacity.
Steven Cook and Chef Michael Solomonov’s other restaurants include Xochitl, serving authentic Mexican fare, and Zahav, Philadelphia’s only modern Israeli restaurant where Solomonov is Executive Chef. In 2009, Solomonov was nominated for the James Beard Foundation’s prestigious “Rising Star Chef” award, and their restaurants are frequently featured in national publications including Bon Appetit, Esquire, Food & Wine and Travel + Leisure.

“I'm really excited for the opening of this new resteraunt. South St. could use an upscale place to bring it back to life. Welcome to the area and good luck on your endeavor.”
