The Daily News reports that Larry Mendte is suing that paper and the Inquirer for -- get this -- defamation.

Former CBS 3 anchor Larry Mendte filed a lawsuit late yesterday against two Inquirer reporters and a former Daily News columnist, claiming charges of defamation and false light, according to court documents.

Named in Mendte's suit are Inquirer gossip columnist Michael Klein, Inquirer entertainment critic Jonathan Storm and former Daily News columnist Jill Porter, as well as the newspaper's owner, Philadelphia Media Holdings.

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court because the company filed for bankruptcy protection in February. It says that because of the defendants' stories, Mendte "suffered harm to his professional and personal reputation."

Uh, Larry: You've publicly admitted that you had a  relationship with Alycia Lane was "improper," given your status as a married man. (This would be a good place to note that Lane denies an improper relationship.) You've pleaded guilty to a federal count of computer tampering because you were spying on Lane's e-mails. How on earth could you be defamed beyond what you've already done to yourself?

Report Violation

“His claims is that Michael Klein worked with Rosen and Lane to pout pressure on the US Attorney' office. They apparently told him it was a misdemeanor until all the media. Pat Meehan does love those news conferences.

But the best part of the complaint is that Klein hacked into the Daily News computer to read a story to Alycia before it was out.”

Larry Mendte Has a Job, Will Talk Tiger Woods

The Daily News reports disgraced former CBS3 anchor Larry Mendte is returning to the airwaves in New York. "Mendte - who has been off the air since his highly publicized firing from the station in June 2008 after an FBI investigation found he had hacked into former co-worker Alycia Lane's e-mail account - has been working on commentary pieces for WPIX-TV for the last month, WPIX news director Bill Carey said last night. Carey expects Mendte to become a full-time WPIX employee in the "next couple of weeks," he said. The station is in "the process of putting together a deal that would put him on the air five nights a week," he said. Mendte, 53, and his family will remain in Philadelphia, his wife, Dawn Stensland, said last night. Mendte has at least six commentaries in the can and a list of ideas that the station expects to air, said Carey, who worked with Mendte in New York and Chicago. "They will be topically driven on current events," Carey said. "It will feature centerpieces based on Larry's unique take on topics that Larry chooses." First up? Tiger Woods."
