The Inquirer has a front-page story about the "mystery" of Rian Thal's life -- she loved her father but did drugs anyway -- and all there's left to say is: Really? How much attention can the Inquirer and Daily News give to the white woman who was murdered while brushing past all the other violence in the city?
On Monday, Dominic McRae -- a food preparer at Temple -- was killed in West Philly. His car was hit by at least eight bullets; McCrae was struck in the back of his head and a thigh.
The Inquirer did a breaking story online. Tuesday, both papers did stories about McRae. But nothing on Wednesday. And nothing today Presumably his family is still mourning, and certainly there have been no reports of an arrest in the shooting. There's more story to tell, it would seem, if the Inky or Daily News wanted to do it.
Apparently they don't. They're too busy pondering the contents of Rian Thal's MySpace page.
What makes all this particularly conspicuous is that Thal didn't die alone. She was with a friend, Timothy Glimore, and both were shot dead. Now granted, Gilmore was from Ohio. But where are the Page One investigative stories about his life?
Oh. Right. He wasn't a white woman.
