Guerilla Artists Install Renegade Project on Roof of Kermit Gosnell's Abortion Clinic
Supporters of the bill—which would mandate that abortion clinics to upgrade to the standards of Surgical Ambulatory Centers—say it was drafted in the interest of preventing further atrocities like 3801 Lancaster Ave. But critics say that in reality, SB 732 would encourage the proliferation of rogue, for-profit abortionists like Gosnell who, they note, was operating illegally in the first place. Critics add that if passed, many of the abortion clinics in the state would be forced to close because the upgrades they say are medically unnecessary are also prohibitively expensive.
Meanwhile, Gosnell remains behind bars with no bail. Just this morning, Judge Benjamin Lerner denied some accomplices’ legal attempts to obtain a separate trial by ruling that Gosnell and his accomplices will all be tried together. The court previously issued a gag order on the case.
The artists invite the public to view the installation tonight, 7 p.m., at 3801 Lancaster Ave.

“Great memorial. Well done, to commemorate a greater evil than properly done hospital abortions. Abortion, of course, homicide. But it's going to happen and slightly over half of us want it legal, so it has to be. This was the worst of a bad thing, and art a little bit redeems it”

“It is time to place regard where none was paid. This is a shrine to the people who died here, to the women abused by the racism and classism adopted as standard procedure in the discriminatory treatment of patients, and to the babies born moving and breathing, who were welcomed into the world by the hands of a serial killer who disposed of their bodies unceremoniously. This is a shrine to the women who do not have the privilege of wealth or employment benefits that this country requires in order to attain health care. This is a shrine in honour of those who suffered here and walked away, and in honour of those who were not so fortunate as to escape with their lives. After all is said and done, this is a memorial to symbolize the transcendence of suffering to freedom, and to behold with regard: observation free from judgment, with an eye toward respect.”

“I noticed ... I noticed when pro-life protesters were in front ... I noticed when I took some women without insurance there for help in a pregnancy they wanted continue and were turned away because they had no concern for babies people wanted .... I noticed when the kites went up and I notice every day how this death office sits with all the reminders. I also noticed that Gosnell never paid R.E. taxes. However, since I am pro-life, nobody listens.”

“Neighbor, we are not telling you to look any harder than you clearly have. We know many people in the neighborhood have been deeply affected by this already. This piece was intended to place regard on how the Gosnell case has affected everyone, including the neighbors, and regardless of what their beliefs are. We may have different positions, but we also need to be able to listen to each other in healthy civil discourse while maintaining empathetic capacity across differing viewpoints. So in this way at least, we seem to agree.”
