The Amount to Be Raised: $1,200
Steinberg’s Take: “Very cool premise for a movie if it’s done the right way. He seems attached to the music he’s chosen, but we’re pledging for a film to be made, and ideally our cash goes onto the screen rather than soundtrack rights.”
What Is It: A show combining dance, theater and video tells the story of a man who wakes up on an exotic island and encounters mermaids and other things. It had its inaugural performance at Temple’s Conwell Dance Theater. The money will fund things like the artist salaries, costume design, and theater rental among other things.
Who’s Behind It: Keila Cordova
The Amount to Be Raised: $7,700
Steinberg’s Take: “Local performance projects are tough because they don’t produce ideal items to send to backers. Starting at $100 for performance tickets may discourage casually interested backers. Definitely needs to tap into the dance community for support.”
What Is It: An art installation that will cover the walls of Paragidm Gallery + Studio in 15,000 buttons. Although it’s not quite clear what it will look like when completed, it sounds like it could be really freaking cool.
Who’s Behind It: MacKenzie Pikaart
The Amount to Be Raised: $1,500
Steinberg’s Take: “It’s cool for an artist to deal in abstraction, but people will either get this or not. I don’t have a super clear idea of what it’s going to look like, so it doesn’t have that visceral ‘I want that!’ factor. Saying how much of the project she is funding herself helps.”

“Let's give some props to Philly crowd-funding projects that *are* happening, like this one to plant 15,000 trees in the city: http://www.citizinvestor.com/project/philadelphia-fall-tree-planting”
