Silver cites a CBS poll showing that 64 percent of voters between 18 and 45 support some sort of protected status for same-sex couples, compared to only 45 percent of those over 65.

“Support for gay marriage, however, is strongly generational .... Civil unions have already achieved the support of an outright majority of Americans, and as those older voters are replaced by younger ones, the smart money is that gay marriage will reach majority status too at some point in the 2010s.”

According to Silver’s calculations, a majority of Pennsylvanians will warm up to same-sex marriage by 2012.

State legislators should remember that, as well as the fact that according to a 2007 Equality Advocates poll, 71 percent of the state already support the pending antidiscrimination legislation, House Bill 300. Maybe they just haven’t heard us yet.
