Philadelphians speak out soberly about the city's spreading crime epidemic.
Neighborhood: North Philadelphia.
"I don't feel safe at all--especially because I don't live in too nice an area. It's definitely sketchy when I'm walking around by myself."
Neighborhood: West Philadelphia.
Occupation: Recruiter for the Red Cross.
"You can be unsafe in any part of the city. They're always talking about increasing the police force, but I don't know if that would make me feel safer. I witnessed a mugging in South Philly. I think it can happen anywhere, anytime."
Neighborhood: Center City.
Occupation: Social worker.
"I just feel like it's so volatile, that anybody could just whip out a gun and shoot me. Somebody got shot because they had a fight in line at a store the other day. We're the murder capital of the world, right? The gun situation is ridiculous. The city's in crisis right now, and anybody anywhere can be shot for anything."
Neighborhood: Port Richmond.
Occupation: Cement mason.
Being Black: It's not the skin color
