Happy holidays, dear PW readers! Welcome to the 2011 Holiday Guide. Why the hell would we publish a holiday guide in this economy, you ask? Because this is, after all, the season of giving. Which is why this year we're providing you with a list of nonprofits worth donating your time and/or your money to and a guide to giving cheap (but cool) gifts that your significant other, relative or friend won't want to throw away. Oh, and a guide to New Year's Eve events for all you party people out there. PW wishes you all a safe and happy holiday season.
In This Issue:
Staff Writer Tara Murtha fosters three kittens from the city's only no-kill shelter, PAWS.
Five nonprofits worth donating your time or money to this season.
This year, we have gifts for her and gifts for him, along with unisex stuff that can be enjoyed by anyone. You'll see three price points here: $0-25, $25-$50 and $50 and above.
Parties, dinners, drinking and general revelry all across town.
In these tough economic times, donating to nonprofits and charitable organizations seems like the last thing on people’s minds. Yet, sometimes just your presence is enough to make a difference. This year, instead of wasting your day buying frivolous crap at the mall, help make life a little easier for those in need by donating your money or time to a worthy organization.
Tis much better to give than to receive—unless of course you’re on the receiving end of something from this list. We’ve got gifts for gals (did someone say she needs a new wallet?); gifts for guys (fedoras are sexy, OK?); and gifts for both (the vibrating sponge for bath time was incredibly intriguing). All of our picks come from small, locally owned stores, which means you’ll be giving back to the community and not some big-box joint. So for those of you still gainfully employed this season (or if you're actually in the 1 percent), here’s a guide to gifts we think are worth your hard-earned cash.
**Updated with new events! Whether you want to shake your groove thang, stuff your face or keep things low-key, here’s a list to keep handy.
