In case the other summer festivals haven’t quite satisfied your appetite for indie film and music, this one will be offering a two-for-one helping. Even better: The events will be held at both indoor and outdoor venues in Fishtown and NoLibs. You can expect at least 300 bands and 50 alternative films from a mix of local, national and international acts. The first batch of talent will be announced later this month with more specifics pouring in throughout the summer.

The Awesome Fest

In addition to presenting awesome titles from the independent festival circuit on the Piazza’s 40-foot screen along with a Q&A with the cast and crew, the outdoor film series will be holding a full-on party each week. Attendees can expect everything from games, contests and giveaways to an outdoor arcade, live performances and even an art installation from Portugal.

Philly’s Phunniest Competition

More than 100 local stand-up comics will deliver their best material over the course of 11 preliminary rounds. Only the funniest individuals will continue on. Past winners include Kent Haines, Anton Shuford and Doogie Horner, best known for his brief run on America’s Got Talent.

Ale & Arts Trolley Tour

Learn about West Philly’s coolest murals before catching a ride to either Dock Street or Yard’s Brewery (depending on the week), for a behind-the-scenes tour and beer tasting. Once back at World Café Live, you can to stay for a low-key alternative show, grab some food or knock back a few more brewskies.

Shakespeare in Clark Park

Sure, you may have read Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, but unless you’ve seen it performed live outdoors for free, you’ve yet to really experience it. Now in its sixth season, the local theater company will be putting on daily shows daily for five straight days. All you need to bring is a blanket or chair. Click here for more summer theater picks.

A Love Supreme: 2nd Annual Contemporary Photography Exhibition
