The Stylistics’ Russell Thompkins Jr. and his soaring falsetto first told us how people make the world go ‘round, and it’s people—both ordinary and extraordinary—who make the music world go ‘round as well. It’s not truly fueled by the millions of consumer dollars spent, but by pure passion: for shared emotional heights and depths, sheer sonic satisfaction, unfiltered expression and even glory, whether real or imagined. PW’s 2013 Music Issue aims to explore those passions, from the flame that consumes would-be artists and the spaces that illuminate their genius, right down to the unquenchable thirst for stardom that so many seek and a precious few find.

In this issue:

Legendary rock club 23 East gets a new lease on life as Ardmore Music Hall
