It's Summer Guide time again, and naturally, our thoughts have turned to death.

The old dirt nap. Nada. Nothing. Nonexistence.

Most of us aren't exactly looking forward to it. But sometimes you have to admit it does sound pretty relaxing.

Since no one gets out of this world alive--though most of us have a ways to go before we go for good--there's no time to waste with our feet up and our hair in curlers. We really need to get busy.

What are you gonna do before you die? Turns out here in Philly, you've got a lot of options--103 of them, to be exact. And we've listed them all this week for your convenience--just in case you're dead by September.

Say what you will about our crazy city. Sure, we have more than our share of guns, drugs and poverty. We have a huge inferiority complex and an even bigger chip on our collective shoulder. But when it comes right down to it, most Philadelphians will defend their scrappy hamlet to the death.

And it just may take that.

“Or maybe they're trying to focus on things beyond the typical stuff that any self respecting Philadelphian has already done?”

“Oh really? And what cultural things have you done? Have you been to the PAFA or the Barnes? Have you done any of the open houses in Society Hill? Have you been to the opera or the ballet? Have you been to the Kimmel Center? THERE IS MORE TO PHILADELPHIA THAN GETTING STONED AND DRINKING PABST AT SOME CHEAP DIVE IN SOUTH PHILLY.”

“Obviously. Philadelphia is a wonderful place... I think that "yeah ok" is right. We all know about the 'advertised' cultural happenings in the city at museums, galleries, theaters, etc. What we don't know about sometimes is the real nitty-gritty cultural goings-on... where you can have a ton of fun, meet new people, and learn about your neighbors in different neighborhoods. Just because some things involve alcohol and debauchery doesn't mean that we're low class. It just means that you're being ignorant and narrow minded. Oh, and a little FYI. I've experienced every 'cultural thing' that you listed.”

“Get one degree closer to Kevin Bacon by enrolling in a flute lesson at Settlement Music School at its original branch in South Philly on Queen Street -- where Kevin took lessons as a tot. For that matter, study any kind of instrument there, then ask to see the city skyline from the rooftop--best view of the city in town. ”

“Jumping off the rocks at Devil's Pool is not only dangerous, but illegal. Swimming is not permitted in the Wissahickon. The shallowness of the water is dangerously low. Several years ago, a man was paralyzed jumping in this area. It took emergency services an extended amount of time attempting to extricate him from the area. (no easy access) ”

“103 things for Philly hipsters to do before they die. God forbid you should attend one of the many, many theatrical events here in Philly. Did you know that the Walnut Street Theatre IS the oldest theatre in America? Or what about seeing the ballet or opera at the Academy of Music? Or get $10 tickets to see one of the greatest orchestras in the world. Or how about seeing the Barnes Foundation in its original home before moving to the Parkway. And you mention NOTHING about Philadelphia's historic spots. Great job, PW. You care more about getting trashed and going to greasy spoons instead of promoting the things that really matter.”

“There are plenty of people swimming in the Wissahickon. And there are plenty of places where the water is waist high or higher. Just don't be stupid and dive in, you WILL injure yourself, and possibly die or be paralyzed.”
