"Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt" was written and illustrated by acclaimed journalists Chris Hedges and Joe Sacco.
You do a night raid in North Philly, what’s the difference in how they look at the weapons they’re carrying from a night raid in Fallujah? None. They even dress the same: in black.
And it seems like you say in the book that the less control the state has over the people, the more they go toward this militarization of the police force.
Yeah, because they know what’s coming. And that’s why they’re gutting the legal system, so we don’t have any protection. That’s why they’re criminalizing dissent. And that’s why they’re creating, essentially, paramilitarized police units. They know, you know, you sit down with an analyst in the [National Security Agency], they’re not going to tell you anything different than what I’m telling you.
So what, if anything, do you hope to accomplish with the publication of Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt?
I want people to see what’s happening to this country. And I want people to begin to viscerally feel, from those we write about, what these corporate forces have done to us.
Chris hedges will read from Days of Destruction, Days of Revolt at the Free Library at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 21. the event is free.
