Res, dressed down in denim, takes the stage and sits on a stool. “You guys want to hear a new song?” she asks. The audience hoots back, and Res begins “Hollow,” a brand new song that will be on the new record. She sings “They-Say Vision” next, and someone yells, “Aww shit!”
A small crowd clusters around the stage. They mouth the words.
When she’s done singing the hit, Res looks hesitant. She pauses, turns to the guitarist. She wants a do-over. Something wasn’t quite right.
“I want to try the new one again,” she says. She swivels back to the crowd and smiles. “You guys don’t mind, right?”
Tomorrow night, the inaugural BlackStar Film Festival presents the first look at "The Res Documentary," a forthcoming feature film profiling rock and soul singer Res, a Philly homegirl.
