Critical Thinking
Regarding last week’s cover story about David Goodis:
This article is perhaps the best introductory essay to Goodis and his work. It covers all of the major themes and events in Goodis’ work and life, and has many fine insights into a very complex person—and seeker after authenticity in his society.

Great piece. Really nicely constructed. Best of all, I may have discovered a new writer to enjoy. I have spent some time on the fringes myself and sometimes fear that I’m destined to live in an SRO because I so enjoy a book so named by another unknown, Robert Deane Pharr. I favor dive bars because they help take you away from white bougie uptightness. I favor black women for the same reason. Of course, it is all an inch or two away from cliche.

Thin Remembered
Every time I grab your paper from the yellow box I have to do a double-take and grab a second paper, thinking all of the guts fell out. PW is but a shell of its former self, and it’s getting worse every week! I understand that print media are losing advertisers at a rapid rate, but Jesus, was this week’s edition even worth publishing? Pretty soon the only thing left will be massage parlor ads!
