Editor’s note: The following Week’s Worst was published in the Dec. 17 issue of PW in 2008 for a Sublime tribute band called Badfish. We’re reprinting it here, because it still applies, but changing the name of the act accordingly.
Sublime pushed the bounds of how shitty a band could be, raising the bar for suckage to such Olympian heights Paul Bunyan could’ve limbo’d under it after eating a Chinese buffet. The SoCal act’s marriage of ska riffs and forced “What, me worry?” beach-bum aesthetic was the perfect aural opiate for white college kids and their beer funnels who wanted to like Bob Marley but couldn’t “get with” his sometimes-revolutionary bent. Think Skankin’ Pickle or Op Ivy stripped of everything that made them interesting or good. Anyway, Sublime ended when singer/guitarist Bradley Nowell overdosed on heroin. Now they’ve reunited with a guy named Rome in Bradley’s place. Hence, Sublime with Rome.

“Sublime isn't hip enough for the hipster crowd.”

“You guys should change this segment to things Hipster's don't like. Sublime is a fun light going band that has really never made music bad enough to illicit this obnoxious post.”

“Sublime was awesome around 15 years ago when I was much younger and skipped college classes to "chill". Def should've called it quits after Brad died though. On that note, ALL accomplished bands should quit when their frontman dies....it's musical blasphemy to carry on!!!”

“I know this article was posted almost a year ago so i'm looking at it a little retropectively but this is the funniest article i've ever read. i hope they don't pay the writer too much to be as condescending and closed minded as possible. i rate you 5 stars sir.”

“Reprinting a two paragraph article? lazy.
Sublime's appeal lies with the freespirit audacity of its founding members. Evidence of there non-suck popularity can be found in the subsequent evolution of cover bands dedicated to them and new bands formed in the sublime-styleee: pepper, 311, slightly stoopid, etc.
A proper critic finds the positive and the negative in a proper critique. You need to go back to school or re-label as an uncool hater. Peace, fucker.”
