A word for those who succumbed to the hype, genuflecting like Pitchfork-poisoned pod-people at the altar of these post-punk parasites: Really? Years (and three progressively crappier albums) later it seems like an embarrassing drug-addled dream. These narcissistic fraudsters only ever really knew how to strike an ambivalent pose or affect a dark mood; actual songwriting never entered the equation. They’re interior decorators, capable of assembling a few key pieces but at a loss as to how to create anything original. Once they finished sucking off Ian Curtis’ corpse there was little left but cinematic wisps of smoke and vainglorious histrionics—available from any metalcore band without having to endure the soul-sucking, world-weary malaise of the black turtleneck set. Interpol’s ponderous self-titled fourth album pulls back to the curtain on a tale told by tools full of thick textures and fashionable frowns signifying exactly bupkus.

Thurs., Nov. 4, 8pm. $35-$39.50. With White Rabbits + Dave P. Tower Theatre, 69th and Ludlow sts., Upper Darby. 215.336.2000. livenation.com

“First record was absolutely brilliant. One of my top five all time favorites. The other albums... not so much.

If it wasn't at the Tower, I'd probably check them out.”

“LOL @ Anonymous #2!!!

Never directed a movie? Guess you can't say the film you just saw really sucked!

Can't cook? Guess you can't say the restaurant meal you just ate was really lousy.

What planet do you live on where the criteria for simply having an opinion about something is that you have to be able to do it yourself?

“their first album has some good songs but when it comes down to it, i'd rather read a chris parker review than listen to an interpol track, so i'll give him license to be a dick about it.”

“I disagree with the writer of the article. I personally loved the first album.
The next couple of albums I felt like they were trying to break free from some stereotypes and the sounds of the first album. Their latest selftitled album seems to me like their coming full circle with a mature sound and lyrics. Lyrics that might not make sense to the writer of this article by none the less adds to the mood Interpol creates in their music. Experience the live show and enjoy their latest album.”

“Seriously? Granted the first album is still my favorite, but the new album is my second. I went to the concert and they were great, as usual! And can't say the same about this article.”

“Just back from a concert. It really does blow. Glad it was at a festival, so almost free. God did I suffer. Went with a friend with the best of intentions to discover a band she liked so much. Noooooo. F...ing awful really.”
