Listen to Adam and Dave's Bloodline on the Umm...Drop Podcast.

“We met in Northeast Philly when we were kids in 1995 at a punk show,” says Adam Garbinski. “Dave [Petersen] was from Indiana and I was from Philadelphia and his band had come to play this one show at this daycare center.”

From that humble encounter, Adam and Dave’s Bloodline would eventually evolve. Bloodline’s timeline looks like this: In the next 15 years, Petersen left Indianapolis and relocated to the East Coast; Petersen and Garbinski played in other bands together and separately; they discovered they share—in Garbinski’s words—“a similar sick sense of humor” and the same disparate musical influences, and so the two finally formed a band of their own.

“We figured out we liked the same music and wanted to do our own thing instead of playing with other people,” explains Petersen. “It just became a goal at some point. We worked on it and eventually made it happen. Everybody at the time [early 2000s] was more interested in normal old punk rock music and modern, late-’90s punk. We liked that stuff, we grew up with those things, but we liked a lot of other stuff that no one was into. We liked Bob Dylan a lot, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen ... ”

Garbinski concurs. “No matter what other bands we were in together, we were always working on our own stuff. We’d make cassette tapes or track demos or sit outside of a hotel and play together and think that we should make a record some day.”

After releasing their first album in 2007—six years after they began talking about it—the duo is set to release their sophomore LP, Boycott Classics.

The album reflects the two’s varied musical tastes with Pet Shop Boys-inspired eerie guitar jams, jangly folk- and country-rock ballads and, of course, the requisite power chord-driven punk gems.

Fri., May 1, 9pm. $10. With Jotto + Faux Slang. Johnny Brenda’s, 1201 Frankford Ave. 215.739.9684. johnnybrendas.com
