Critic's Pick: Motörhead

“We are Motörhead, and we play rock ’n’ roll,” says Lemmy Kilmister, who has helmed the world’s loudest band for more than 35 years. Even now, in his 60s, he can still carry off the sleeveless T and leather vest look beloved by metalheads everywhere. In the mid-1970s, Motörhead shook heavy music to its core, cranking its sludgy dirges to amphetamine speeds, playing harder, faster and louder than anyone else. Speed metal, thrash, grindcore and certain violent offshoots of punk rock can all point to the band as an influence, but screw that grandfather crap. Only last year, Motörhead released its 21st full-length album, The World Is Yours, which Q Magazine called “the usual drill: fast, frenetic and very, very loud ... Who would want it any other way?”
