Sounds Like: Laura Burhenn’s got a seriously powerful voice, and with her backing band, her second effort is a well-produced, heady mix of retro soul and Americana.

Free Association: This one’s heavier and louder than her debut, and it sounds great.

Sounds Like: A surprising sixth LP from the L.A.-conceived noise rockers is heavily dipped in electronics and glitchy synthetic sounds; much lighter on the chaos and grit.

Free Association: It’s true, it’s a bit of an In Rainbows sound for them, and therefore awesome.
