SWV

I Missed Us

(Entertainment One)

Sounds Like: The girls that dominated the Urban R&B charts of the early ’90s have been missing for almost 15 years, and they return with some great new tracks.

Free Association: Big ups to Lamb, Beyoncé’s “Countdown” producer— he turned it out.

For Fans Of: Destiny’s Child x TLC + En Vogue, Janet/Michael/Prince, fairytales.

Spacin’

Deep Thuds

(Richie Records/TestosterTunes)

Sounds Like: Philadelphia’s own grime rock outfit’s lo-fi debut of mirky, psychedelic and polished-up chaos is a creepy but excellent listen, preferably at high volumes.

Free Association: Some songs will put you in a trance, then slap you violently awake.

For Fans Of: My Bloody Valentine + the Stooges, Velvet Underground, noise.

Yann Tiersen

Skyline

(Alternative Distribution Alliance)

Sounds Like: The legendary French composer and multi-instrumentalist/soundtrack man has a second US LP and it’s a creative mix of instrumentals and shredding rock.

Free Association: He’s done a lot more than Amelie—check out 2010’s rad Dust Lane.
