Some may consider folk singing and computer music to be irreconcilable opposites. Peter Evans has embraced both fields of study, and has forged an unusual group of richly layered songs for his 2010 release “Cricket”. He describes the style of music as “Laptop Folk”. As folk writers have always done, Evans chronicles social and political subjects like religion & technology, gun control, life after life, and the mass media. But traditionalists of the folk world may have their hackles raised by the way Evans infuses digitally processed sound into the mixes throughout much of the “Cricket” CD.
