2 Turntables and 1 Microphone

Wed., June 15, 9pm. $5-$7. Millcreek Tavern, 4200 Chester Ave. 215.222.9194. www.millcreektavernphilly.com

Kindred the Family Soul husband-and-wife duo Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon gambled on opening a boutique in an unlikely location, but so far it seems to be paying off. As its fashion-forward customers have known for months, the Kulture Shop at 50th and Baltimore stocks unique clothing from local and national designers as well as unusual housewares. And with the boutique's new monthly party, shoppers have one more reason to hit up West Philly. 2 Turntables and 1 Microphone (no relation to the similar-sounding Beck song) features J Truth and friends holding court over the open mike and some of the best in classic and current hip-hop and R&B. Not for Tourists Guide to Philadelphia Launch Party

Thurs., June 9, 9pm. Free. Khyber, 56 S. Second St. 215.238.5888. www.thekhyber.com

One sign that Philadelphia has arrived is the publication of the city's first Not for Tourists guide, a handy little book that (as its name implies) targets residents of the city. Not for Tourists started in New York in 2000 and quickly brought its trademark little black book of information to other cities around the country. Now it's our turn, and the book is packed with the kind of info you probably wish you'd known before-such as where the pet shop in West Philly is. (Be warned, though: Some of the info is already outdated, and there are puzzling omissions in almost every neighborhood.) To celebrate, the NFT folks are bringing the party-and free guides to the first 300 people to register on their website and show up at the Khyber-on Thursday, with DJs Half-Breed, Mr. Ill and Weez on the decks, as well as some prizes courtesy of NFT and party cosponsor R.E. Load bags. (Doree Shafrir)
