Saying someone's famous in Europe usually invites the standard Hasselhoff jokes, but German techno DJ Chris Liebing really is. The crew at the Philly-based Foundsound/Unfoundsound Records is hoping to harness some of Liebing's star power Stateside when he headlines Fluid Wednesday night. With the use of three turntables and two laptops, his set is expected to walk that elusive line between DJ set and live performance. "His set is very driving and mesmerizing," says Foundsound's Sean O'Neal, who'll be spinning one of his first sets back home in Philly after three months of globetrotting, including a stint in Russia. Also on hand will be St. Louis minimal techno DJ/producer Butane (aka Andrew Rasse), whose debut EP has been blowing up on the Unfoundsound label. (Maggie Serota)

Excursions

Thurs., May 12, 9pm-1am. Free. Monthly. Latest Dish, 613 S. Fourth St. 215.629.0565

What happens when two DJs have a college radio show so popular that they're constantly hounded by fans to start playing out together? For DJs Lil' Dave and Junior of WKDU's Eavesdrop, the answer is the Latest Dish's new free monthly Excursions. "We don't play the kind of stuff you'd hear on commercial radio stations," DJ Junior says of the duo's signature laid-back loungey tracks. "You might hear anything from Fela Kuti to Teena Marie and Slum Village." The soulful down-tempo tracks will be the perfect complement to the Dish's intimate candlelit atmosphere. (After all, some nights you just want to leave the drum 'n' bass and Kamikaze shots to the kids upstairs at Fluid.) "Come, have some drinks, have some food, listen to some music," DJ Junior says, like an accommodating Italian grandmother. Who are we to say no? (M.S.)
