DJ Half-Breed + DJ Sissy

Wed., May 4, 8-10pm. Free. The Other Green Line Café, 4305 Locust St. 215.222.0799. www.greenlinecafe.com

"It won't be a dance party. It'll definitely be more laid-back," says Marissa Johnson (aka DJ Half-Breed) of her night at the newer of the two West Philly Green Line Cafés. Johnson may be better known for getting people moving, but this night with Drew-Christopher Joy, aka DJ Sissy, is something different-a stress-free forum for local activists. "They can come without needing to organize," she says. A hat will be passed around for donations and activist-related information will be available, all while the two DJs spin a mellower take on their usual hip-hop, R&B and indie. Expect some early Marvin Gaye and rappers like Jean Grae, Mos Def and Talib Kweli-"hip-hop I really like that doesn't usually have a real dance track," says Johnson. She has high hopes for what should be the first in a cozy monthly series. "It's a small space and people aren't paying to get in the door," she points out. "It's a neighborhood thing." (Doug Wallen)
