The heavily-hyped D.C. MC brings his "Attention Deficit" to town.
We should congratulate rapper Wale for finally dropping an album last year. For a while there, the D.C. hip-hopper was leading the charge in the category of heavily-hyped MCs who have yet to actually drop a CD in stores. Up until the November release of his debut, Attention Deficit, Wale was in the same boat with Drake, B.o.B., J. Cole and other on-the-rise MCs who have a bevy of acclaimed mixtapes online, a killer record deal and absolutely no album sales. Despite attracting the hipster crowd when he melded hip-hop with Seinfeld on The Mixtape About Nothing in 2008, people were still wondering if he’d drop anything with a barcode. Thankfully he has, with lots of cameos (Lady Gaga, Jazmine Sullivan, Bun B, a pre-incarceration Gucci Mane). So, congrats, Wale, you’re ahead of the mixtape-rapper pack. Drake, we’re waiting on your light-skinned ass now!
Thurs., Jan. 28, 8pm. $18. With Chiddy Bang + Fly Gypsy. Theatre of Living Arts, 334 South St. 215.922.1011. livenation.com
