Sounds Like: Louisiana quintet’s debut of dancey Afro-beat inspired quirk pop uses samples, lots of percussion, synths and dueling boy/girl vocals to great effect.

Sounds Like: A nutso all-girl quartet who rotate responsibilities and write everything together, specialize in amateur girl punk with tons of screamy energy.

Free Association: They’ll kick your ass while wearing vintage dresses, boots and sunglasses.

For Fans Of: The Slits x Vivian Girls, Beat Happening, tattoos and attitude.

Sounds Like: Ethereal and gentle (read: sleepy) debut of a Montreal singer-songwriter and filmmaker, who probably loved Leonard Cohen but doesn’t sing that well.

Free Association: Doesn’t sound so bad on paper; 20 minutes later you’ll want to kill.
