Findlay Brown has been dubbed the English Roy Orbison, and nothing could be more accurate. (Well, except maybe “British Roy Orbison who looks like k.d. lang and dresses like an Icky Thump-era Jack White.”) His new album Love Will Find You is chock full of Orbison-like loveliness, languid swells and sways that float and flutter like the perfect soundtrack for a lazy Sunday or open-window road trip to the beach. The album was inspired by Brown’s rediscovery of do-wop, Elvis and Motown while laid up on his sister’s sofa with a broken leg after being hit by a cab. It was there he had nothing to do but immerse himself in their music, studying it meticulously. Brown opens for bourbon-swilling country hottie Shelby Lynne this Sunday at World Cafe Live. She looks nothing like k.d. lang.
