Philadelphia’s own vintage rockers Blood Feathers began humbly, as a partnership between two good friends with guitars. Founders Ben Dickey and Drew Mills have made some duo appearances again recently, stripping down new material for more demure rooms than their now six-piece band is used to playing. Normally though, the Feathers’ three guitarists are grinding away to wild, honky tonk-ish rock ’n’ roll at a deafening volume. Tunes like “Sweet Tea” and “Hard Being You (I Am Sure)” are excellent examples of the kind of toe-tapping ardor the boys are capable of inducing. Since 2010’s Philebrity Label-released Goodness Gracious, the band’s live set has been brimming with these unfamiliar, yet delightfully fresh cuts, and no doubt, they’ll continue testing the waters, prepping for the release of their third record. Just like the old stuff, however, these all center on Mills’ and Dickey’s unfailing commitment to the perfectly timed vocal harmony and electric guitar hook. (Kevin Brosky)
