“It turned us from friends into work mates,” says McClung of he and his bandmates, who were ages 18 to 21 when they began touring last year. “You just feel like four mirrors looking at each other. And at any given time, you just see all the good about somebody, or all the bad. That’s what spending all this time does to people. And if you don’t know how to deal with it, it can end up getting pretty tense. I think we were just thrown into touring a little too soon maybe. We suffered a little bit, but we’ve come out of it well on the other end. You’ll be happy to know the band’s a much better time these days.”
Yes, happy to know it. These bros will be together for LYF. Maybe. Anyway, that seems to be what Roberts is saying when, on “Concrete Gold,” he sings: “YOU DES UN ZIL RYUN RYUN!”
WU LYF perform Tues., April 24, 8:30pm. $13-$15. With Willis Earl Beal. Union Transfer, 1024 Spring Garden St. 215.232.2100. utphilly.com
