BANDS NOT TO MISS AT LIBERTY FEST

Thirty-seven acts will play Liberty Fest this weekend, from Fri., April 6 through Sun., April 8. Not sure where to start? Try these five Philly bands.

Void Vision: “I don’t make happy music,” says Shari Vari, the artist behind this one-woman vintage-synth, electro-pop project. “Happiness doesn’t inspire me, so I make dark dance music.” Fri., April 6, late show. Level Room, 2102 Market St.

Ladder Devils: A death-blow-dealing post-hardcore quartet, their debut album drops in May on the Fishtown-based Brutal Panda Records. Fri., April 6, early show. Level Room, 2102 Market St.

Salvation: A mysterious hardcore/black metal outfit that achieves terrifying catharses on its two Youth Attack releases, Mortality Interactions and “House Of The Beating Hell”. Fri., April 6, early show. Level Room, 2102 Market St. 

Leather: Extremely misanthropic and hyper-vengeful punk-rock; when drummer Brad Raub isn’t mutilating his kit, he works the door at most Phonographic Arts shows. Sat., April 7, early show. Emoda Gallery, Third and Moore sts.

Spacin’: “Psychedelic thud rock with Afrobeat tendencies.” That’s how Jason Killinger—also playing Liberty Fest with his power-psych band Birds of Maya—describes this new project whose debut album drops soon on Philly’s Richie Records. Sun., April 8, late show. Level Room, 2102 Market St.
