Damien Taylor’s Sounds of Kaleidoscope is calling it quits after 17 years, after persisting through lineup changes and shifts in fashion. Along the way, Taylor and his crew have concocted a sweet, swirling, guitar-based psychedelia that would have been at home in Athens, Ga.’s Elephant Six collective or L.A.’s Paisley Underground or alongside Teenage Fanclub in certain parts of Northern Britain. Sounds of Kaleidoscope always found a warm reception in Philly, sometimes sharing stages with like-minded Lilys and Asteroid #4, so perhaps it’s fitting that the band’s last day-glo’d stand will be here. Say goodbye to a great band that should have been better known, and don’t miss one last chance to let your freak flag fly.
