There are many folks in the world of hip-hop who call themselves moguls, though only a few actually live up to the name. (A rapper who also advertises a low-rate brand of vodka does not a mogul make.) But as far as big shots go, Jim Jones is the real deal. (Proof: He’s been arrested twice this week.) First appearing as co-founder of rap group the Diplomats with Cam’ron and Juelz Santana, the former hype man has since moved on to a successful solo career. Along the way he has taken the helm of many other ventures (and this is where the mogul part comes in), including: acting, directing, producing, record label executive/A&R, overseeing the Black Keys’ Blakroc project, starring in VH1’s Love & Hip-Hop reality show, and managing his own inline skating team (for reals). Also performing at Thursday’s show is local MC Dice Raw, best known for his guest appearances on every Roots album since Do You Want More?!!!??!

Thurs., March 1, 7pm. $15. TLA, 334 South St.
