This Town is a Mystery

Media Title

It usually happens at night. You’re driving, walking or biking past homes. The lights are on and you can see in the windows, and suddenly you wonder who lives there and what is their life like. Headlong Dance Theater co-artistic director Andrew Simonet’s curiosity about the homes and lives of other Philadelphians led to the troupe’s new Live Arts’ production This Town is a Mystery. At each performance, 10 audience members will meet at one of the four households participating in the project. The performance at each home is drawn from the lives of the home’s inhabitants and is also influenced and inspired by the space’s architecture and furnishings. There are no professional dancers in Mystery; each piece is performed entirely by the home’s inhabitants after rehearsals at Headlong’s studio and then the home itself. After purchasing a ticket, the ticketholder will receive an email informing them where to go. Just be sure not to arrive empty-handed, each audience member is required to bring a dish to contribute to the pot-luck dinner following the performance. -J. Cooper Robb
