Take What You Need: An Illustrated Experiment

This April, Take What You Need: An Illustrated Experiment with Brief Literature, comes to Indy Hall. The second event in Indy Hall Art's Spring Series pairs scribe Adam Teterus (that's me) with artists Mike Jackson, Parker Whitney, Zeke Jenei, Mike Heston and Sean Martorana to deliver a series of original, short stories as interpreted through an artist's acclaimed, visual talent.  Each vignette offers the bare essentials of a narrative for the artist to explore in medium and meaning.
Take What You Need is a collaborative project about influence, perspective and departure. It's just as much about picking up the pieces as letting go. The language and tone for each little fiction roots from a very particular place, offered to those with nearly no bearing of the original intent. The experiment realizes the selfish nature of private art and dispels ownership by asking an outside source to derive his vision, to make the story his own.
This is what happens when 5 distinctly different artists salvage my stories to build something greater. This is what happens when my privacy becomes their truth.
On April 4th, the stories are no longer mine or theirs - they belong to you.
Take a walk around.
Take a look.
And by all means, take what you need.
- Adam Teterus
