Langman Gallery presents an exhibition of recent wall compositions by Illinois ceramic artists Rhonda Cearlock.
Intuition, free flowing creative expression, years of experience with clay, and a bit of spontaneity, is the foundation of these complex compositions. Cearlock begins with hand-built clay tiles and objects that are extruded, slumped, and pressed molded. Various pieces are textured, carved, and incised using original clay stamps and found objects. The exciting part for her is assembling; she simply lets the process happen instinctively. The size of the finished piece is the only predetermined factor. Once the character of the piece is revealed, she chooses the color palette and variety of paint.
