Restrepo

Media Title

Rumor has it that Restrepo is the best war film this side of The Hurt Locker (and infinitely more accurate), but its presence on Philly screens was limited and brief. Luckily, the National Constitution Center is offering a remedy for those of us who missed our first chance at seeing it. As an added bonus for us late-birds, directors Sebastian Junger (of Perfect Storm fame) and Tim Hetherington will be present at the screening, and participants in a subsequent group discussion. The documentary follows a platoon of American soldiers deployed to one of the most dangerous outposts of the U.S. occupation in Afghanistan. The goal of the film is not to express a viewpoint about the soldiers or their presence there, but simply to channel their experiences verbatim—a refreshing take, given the heavily politicized nature of many documentaries, much less ones about war. If this all sounds a little heavy, there’s a pre-film reception for “cocktails and conversation,” so you’ll have a full hour to prepare. -E.C.
