How to Become an Information Sherpa

Apparently Dr. Joseph Nadan has invented a ton of stuff you and I either use every day or have at some point in our lives. That includes the EZ Pass, CD-ROM, and 16:9 HDTV, among other things. He’s giving a talk on World Cafe’s downstairs stage tonight called “How to Become an Innovation Sherpa”—or, in layman’s terms, how to use technology and synergy to your advantage in the business world.

The theory he’ll be presenting is about how innovation plus science programs equal success, but technical success isn’t possible without using six Ps: passion, preparation, people, process, practice and performance. So, while technology is a part of our everyday lives, so are actual humans and all the things that made industry successful before we were all using our iPads to upload funny cat pictures. Sometimes we need a reminder.

And Dr. Nadan knows of which he speaks. In addition to his ability to invent, Nadan has worked at companies all over the spectrum, from AIG Technologies to Reuters, and he’s currently a professor at New York University’s Polytechnic Institute, as well as the senior editor of the International Journal of Innovation Science, a publication we’re still getting around to reading. He currently teaches classes like Information Technology Strategy and Leadership, and his resume puts just about everyone you know to shame.
