Global Fusion Festival

Media Title

Philly’s annual Global Fusion Week celeb-rates our vibrant multiculturalism all across town through music, food, dance, crafts and storytelling—and the indisputable highlight each year is the Global Fusion Festival. Today’s free, eight-hour “Rhapsody” concert is headlined by R&B superstar Brandy, who’ll bring a bittersweet mood to the festivities: The title of her forthcoming album, Two Eleven, signifies not only her birthday but the day her friend and musical hero Whitney Houston died. Expect much Whitney tributizing during her set. Among others on the bill: R&B/jazz crooner Kenny Lattimore, New Orleans singer (and Tyrese/Chris Brown/Estelle collaborator) Luke James, Philly’s own pop-R&B upstart Cody Kamhar and L.A. singer-songwriter Elle Varner, who teamed up with the Roots for a live performance earlier this year to deliver her own Whitney tribute. -Michael Alan Goldberg
