Film al Fresco

Indie film and food will converge
again on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway this
summer with the return of Film al Fresco, an
outdoor film series presented by The Galleries at
Moore College of Art & Design.
The 2014 summer series will dish up independent films by filmmakers form the Greater Philadelphia andDelaware Valley regions and tasty street snacks from local food trucks on select Friday evenings in Juneand July. The films will be shown on a large outdoor screen in Aviator Park and all screenings are freeand open to the public.
Film al Fresco is a juried competition and outdoor summer film series that showcases the work of
independent filmmakers from the Greater Philadelphia and Delaware Valley regions. The series expands The Galleries at Moore’s commitment to presenting the work of emerging Philadephia-area artists and itsrole as a venue for exhibitions and programs that focus on innovative ideas in contemporary art andvisual culture. The Galleries at Moore received a $20,000 Knight Arts Challenge Grant in 2012 toestablish the film series. The Galleries were among 1,267 applicants who answered the question: “What’syour best idea for the arts in Philadelphia?” A diverse group, including individual artists, artist collectives,community groups, jazz and classical music organizations, theater companies and educationalinstitutions, offered a wide array of innovative ideas but only 55 – including the Galleries – were selectedas finalists.
Filmmakers who reside in the Greater Philadelphia and Delaware Valley regions (PA counties includingBerks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia; DE counties including Kent and New Castle; NJ counties including Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem; and Cecil county in MD) are eligible to submit films/videos for consideration.
Categories include: Narrative Feature (41 min. or longer), Documentary Feature (41 min. or longer),
Narrative Short (40 min. or less), Documentary Short (40 min. or less) and Animated Short (40 min. or
less). There is no entry fee. Film submissions will be accepted April 3-30, 2014. Details are available on the Film al Fresco webpage
The 2014 selection committee includes Kaytie Johnson, Rochelle F. Levy Director & Chief Curator, The Galleries at Moore; Walter Forsberg, a New York-based film archivist and curator; and Jennifer Levonian, an artist and animator from Philadelphia.
This year's screenings are scheduled for June 13 & 27 and July 11 & 25. Participating filmmakers and
their projects will be announced in mid-May.
