Imagining a time when Seth Haley was, in his own words, “anti-’80s for the most part” is a seriously WTF prospect. Com Truise—one of the aliases of Princeton, N.J.-based electronica dabbler Haley—feels as authentic a Reagan-era product as The Cosby Show or New Order, even though Truise has only been around for a bit. Last year’s Galactic Melt found Haley squeezin’ and smoochin’ profoundly 1980s-sounding synthesizers to make what could easily double as a laser light show soundtrack, and this year’s rarities collection In Decay follows a similar sonic path. In case Com Truise’s infatuation somehow wasn’t obvious enough, examine a cluster of Decay song titles: “Klymaxx” shares its name with the all-girl R&B band (first record: 1981), “Colorvision” sounds suspiciously similar to video game console ColecoVision (launch year: 1982), and “84’ Dreamin” needs no footnote. For optimal listening, crack open a New Coke. -Reyan Ali
