With a growing number of artists feeling unwelcome by this city’s professional galleries, local photographer Kenny White has decided to open up his spacious Fishtown studio to fellow creators in all different stages of their careers. Slated to be held the first Sunday or Saturday of each month, the new monthly arts salon kicks off with a chill afternoon of art, food and music. The work of five local artists will be on display, including Don Stephens’ expressive charcoal drawings, Angela McQuillan’s mixed-media works and photographs by Melvin Chappell. Courtney Chobert of “Unstrung Designs” will be on hand selling her handcrafted jewelry while guitarist Mike Tyler and friends provide the tunes. Each salon promises to feature live music and showcase at least two performance artists and two visual artists whose exhibition will run for the entire month. -Nicole Finkbiner
