Sunset 0639 Hours A World Premiere Ballet

Co-Artistic Director Matthew Neenan presents a second world premiere this season, Sunset, o639 Hours, an evening-length ballet with original music by the award-winning New Zealand composer Rosie Langabeer. Inspired by the true story of a pilot who dared to cross the South Pacific, this new ballet will take us back in time to an isolated island paradise.

On January 2, 1938, Captain Edwin Musick embarked on an insurmountable journey. Pushing the limits of his aircraft and crew, he attempted to complete New Zealand’s first airmail delivery to Hawaii. Traversing 4,000 miles of open ocean, Musick’s team set out to connect these two distant lands.

Drawing on the sights and sounds of New Zealand’s Maori and Pacific Island culture, Neenan and Langabeer will follow Captain Musick’s journey this summer as they present an original ballet that takes BalletX to the other side of the world.
