Animus
With their unorthodox instrumentation and unique, original compositions, Philly’s Belly Dance Spectacular fuses music and dance forms from across the globe to create one incredibly enchanting and invigorating live experience. The audience is invited to either participate or sit back as the group’s musical journey takes them from India to Africa then from Latin America to the Middle East. While Animus is primarily an Eastern Mediterranean/Middle Eastern/Latin/American dance ensemble, their eclectic sound covers all of the above along with an impressive sprinkling of jazz, blues, funk and rock. Through their continuously evolving performances, the troupe aims not only to push—and flat out defy—traditional boundaries of song and dance, but promote tolerance, diversity and world peace. N.F.
