Journey Toward Freedom: A History of the Civil Rights Movement

With the hindsight of a half-century, Lyric Fest revisits the dramatic history of the Civil Rights Movement with songs of the era, art songs, opera and spirituals. Featuring very special guest artists Denyce Graves, Kevin Deas and Lisa Daltirus, soprano, the program will be narrated by Rev. Charles Rice and will include readings from the works of Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou, and the speeches of Dr. Martin LutherKing. Lyric Fest is delighted to be collaborating with Singing City to present this concert which will feature the Singing City Chamber Choir and Children’s Choir under the direction of Jeffrey Brillhart and accompanied by pianists Laura Ward and Keenan Boswell.
